Bringing New Orleans Inclusivity to Prides Nationwide

Boombox’s longtime friend and client New Orleans & Company, the city’s official tourism organization, tasked us with creating showstopping Pride experiences in two major U.S. cities.

We rose to the challenge by creating unforgettable activations infused with New Orleans energy for Chicago Market Days and Atlanta Pride.

For the Atlanta Pride parade, we brought out a massive, custom designed alligator float—adorned with LGBTQ+ flair. We also invited New Orleanians and Atlantans alike to walk in the parade with us and exude the fun energy (and costuming) of Mardi Gras.

For both Pride events, we also designed and fabricated a custom photo opportunity modeled after the iconic New Orleans lampposts. Instead of street names, the lamppost featured two magnetic panels, one with “NOLA Welcomes ___” and the other blank to allow visitors to choose a word they felt represented them. The words on our classic New Orleans lamppost could be mixed and matched with other magnetic words shouting out various LGBTQ+ identities.

As people stepped up to the lamppost, we encouraged them to choose a new magnet for their photo so we could make sure everyone knows there’s a place for them to belong in New Orleans. We also reminded guests to tag their posts with #everyoneswelcomehere and @visitneworleans so we could generate engagement through shares and reposts.

At each event, we also ran a sweepstakes for a trip to New Orleans, which included airfare, a hotel stay, gift cards for dinners and activities, and much more. These signups allowed us to significantly grow our LGBTQ+ newsletter database.
