Gilead Stigma Pop-Up

Shedding Light on HIV Stigma with Gilead Sciences at World Pride

Services: , ,

Gilead Sciences challenged Boombox with creating a World Pride activation that highlighted and strengthened Gilead’s leadership in global efforts to end the HIV epidemic. Understanding that HIV stigma is one of the foremost barriers to those seeking treatment, prevention, and support, Boombox curated an experience grounded in the firsthand testimony of those affected by all forms of stigma.

Voices of Strength, our mini-museum pop-up, shared the stories of individuals who overcame misconceptions and judgements often associated with their identities: HIV status, gender identity, sexual orientation, faith and more. The six mini documentaries gave LGBTQ+ people a platform to speak about HIV and stigma in their own words and on their own terms. In the evening, we converted the activation space to host a special speaker series for continued conversations about HIV and Gilead’s trailblazing research and advocacy work.

The exhibit premiered on the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, which further emphasized the historical challenges and intersectional stigmas experienced by queer people and people living with HIV. We activated the Voices of Strength pop-up experience at several additional markets beyond World Pride.
